We here at Big Bark Tree Taming Tree Services Willmar MN love animals! If that was not apparent with the large dog on the side of our truck you will quickly find out about our passion in short conversations. Animals hold a special place in our hearts, and we have all kinds around the shop and at home. We have working animals, pets like chickens that provide eggs and keep our yard bug free, cats that live in the barn, keeping mice and rodents out of our valuable equipment, dogs that blend the line between working and house pets, snuggly on the couch but lean mean hunting machines out in the field, and we have soft fat inside cats that are always down to be cuddled. Some of our most beloved pets have been rescues, coming from local Animal Shelters, abandoned in buildings, or even one cat that was pulled from a construction site! These rescue pets hold such a special place in our hearts, so we are so excited about our commitment to help the local shelters of Hawk Creek Animal Shelter and Sioux Falls Area Humane Society!
The Hawk Creek Animal Shelter has a special mission, one that we are fully bought into, going all the way back to elementary school for our founder Jacob. Jacob would spend time after school, when his mom would drop him off, volunteering at the shelter, helping walk dogs, clean the cat room, and anything else that they needed him to do. Hawk Creek’s belief is that there is a unique and special bond between animals and humans, a bond that is overall positive and beneficial to society. Following that belief directs their interests to providing a safe haven and assisting with sheltering abandon and lost animals, all while searching for a long time and permanent home. While providing a shelter for these animals they also are involved in community awareness, promoting careful and responsible training and care for house pets. Hawk Creek Animal Shelter is also an advocate for proper neutering and spaying of animals, providing the community with low cost options for these surgeries and giving information about the benefits that these procedures can have for your pet and the community.
Bo, the dog whose silhouette is the centerpiece of our logo, and rides on all the trucks of Tree Services Willmar MN, was an inside house dog, but lived a very active life. He was always out on the edges of the property looking for birds, hiking miles into the back country on camping trips, or pushing over tall CRP grasses in pursuit of pheasants. Bo required a high protein food with large amounts of real meat to keep him in the best shape possible with enough energy for these straining tasks. Through raising and working with Bo we began to realize how important quality food was to his well being. Without the right food Bo would not have the energy needed to complete his work tasks like Tree Services Willmar MN, as well as playing with the kids at home or fetching sticks. You could immediately tell if he had not been eating right, as he would slow down, almost to a stop, until he was properly refueled. What we learned quickly when switching our Bo over to good food is that high quality pet food is very expensive! After seeing such a great improvement in Bo’s life, we also switched our chubby inside cats to high quality food, furthering our pet food bill every month! That is why when coming up with a give back, the first thing we thought of was helping feed these shelter pets. Every Tree Services Willmar MN we do, from the small pruning jobs up to large scale removals, buys a bag of food for the animal shelter!
It is a fairly simple process, every time we do a Tree Services Willmar MN we donate to the local shelter to buy a new bag of food. If the trees are in the Willmar area, we donate to Hawk Creek Animal Shelter, and if our tree jobs are in the Sioux Falls area, we of course then donate to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. Both organizations are incredible, filled with dedicated and hardworking full time staff as well as passionate volunteers. We believe that pets make life all that much more enjoyable, and these volunteers know how important it is keeping these animals safe and ensuring they go to loving homes. Without volunteer help none of these organizations would be able to run. Animal care is not a lucrative business to be in like Tree Services Willmar MN, so donations of time and money really do go a long way to keep these places open and continuing to provide help to animals in need. These volunteers are crucial to the success of Hawk Creek Animal Shelter and Sioux Falls Area Humane Society, and we cannot thank them enough for all the hard work they do helping keep these lost and hurting animals safe, rehoming them to a place where they will be loved and adored for the rest of their lives.
Another great thing these wonderful shelters provide is low cost dog training to people who adopt pets or otherwise need help with their new dog. After Bo passed, starting over with a new puppy full of energy was quite the challenge! Bo had such a mild manner, listened well, and responded to commands, now this puppy is tearing through our house, causing a ruckus, and wrestling with our other pets, pain in the butt! Training is tough, so the fact that these shelters can help provide this low cost dog training really blesses people! A properly trained dog is so much less likely to be a nuisance to neighbors or run away and get lost, so providing the training not only helps the pet owner but does a great job keeping the shelter open for pets who are truly in need, not just dumb and got lost!
If you want to help pets in need there are a few great things you can do! Donations are accepted at both shelters, but if you want to bring in food or toys check out their wish list so you can buy the proper supplies for the different animals. Hawk Creek and Sioux Falls Area are also always looking for volunteer time, which can be a great thing to do with your family as well! Sometimes all it takes is showing up and taking these dogs on a walk, giving them love and comfort in a tough time. Lastly, you can always have us work on your tree project!
